A.    Hatha Yoga is the yoga of will, the physical aspect of yoga.  In hatha based practice,
movement is associated with breath - certain movements are performed on an inhale
and others an exhale.  Breathing exercises both in active and restorative poses, as
well as Pranayama, all aid in building lung capacity and integrating body, mind, and spirit.

Q.   What is Iyengar Yoga?

A.    Iyengar Yoga, founded by B.K.S. Iyengar, has its roots in hatha yoga.  Iyengar Yoga is
alignment oriented so that each person comes to find out how to safely practice each
pose.  Muscles and joints are not overused because all parts of the body, as well as the
mind, are safely recruited for each pose.  Each yoga session includes restorative poses
which allow a balance between work and rest and which invite the practice of pranayama.
