Dear students and friends of LifeFit,
Greetings in this month where we get to celebrate love and more importantly we get a chance to remind people around us how much we appreciate and love them. "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God and everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God." 1 John 4:7 With that I want to say that you all are so dear to me - I love you all! I enjoy watching us all grow together and I am constantly inspired by your diligence in your practice and in getting to know the wonderful people I am blessed to work with!
YOGA DAY last month was a great success! It was our 4th year to participate in this endeavor and we had record numbers of folks to come out to try our classes (all classes were packed) and walk the labryinth, with many people walking their first time! Though the contributions financially were low, $154.00, it opened our eyes all the more to the economic recession we are in and more importantly it shows us that the time spent together, learning together in fellowship, enjoying their supportive atmosphere of the group and the activities was truly what made the event a "success." The first year we held Yoga Day, we sent the $800.00 in donations to the Pakistan Earthquake Relief Fund, through the church. The last three years, we have used the donations to begin and expand the "Labryinth Ministry" at Christ United Methodist church. Hopefully, we can continue with Yoga Day, the last Saturday of January usually, in the coming years. The awareness of this avenue of offering classes free of charge and using any donations toward a local charity, is an ideal way to share the benefits of the practice of yoga and to build community. Thanks to all who gave of their valuable time to plan, serve, participate and donate! If anyone is wishing to make further contributions, please direct your attention to the Christ United Methodist church office.
Onto the next event....OPEN HOUSE, Saturday, February 21 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm! The address is 5806 Wildrose Drive. Through the month of December, and part of January, we have had some home renovations to allow more space for my home studio and its addition of ....a Clinical Pilates Reformer! Now, I have added to the two Yoga Wall stations, and the Migun Bed in what I can offer to private and semi-private students. The Clinical reformer in the Pilates line is the higher end product that allows for more specific exercises, useful for rehabilitation, yet has all the foundational pieces in its design to allow for classical Pilates reformer work. America has embraced Pilates matwork, and I do incorporate that into my yoga sequences for group classes. Special expensive equipment is not necessary and the popularity is ever growing, and with good reason: the focus of the work is core strength, with safety, and we all know that having great core strength is the foundation to "staying at the top of your game" so to speak, in anything you do physically, from other sports, yoga practice, to functional living and especially to maintaining good posture. Originally, Joseph Pilates used specially designed pieces of equipment/apparatus for his creative exercises and I would love for you all to come see a grand example...and maybe try a few exercises. Please relay this invitation to interested friends! We will share healthy snacks and good company!
Housekeeping news:
1. The new 8 week "Beginners Yoga" class is a great success, as it filled to capacity right away! The second session will run March 3 to April 28 and will not have class April 14 since that falls during the school system's Spring break schedule. All current students will be able to keep their place with prepayment due the last week of February and I will allow new interested students to fill open spaces then. This class receives the planned sequence each time along with supplemental handouts so that by the end of 8 weeks, we cover a comprehensive learning experience of general standing, seated, reclined and restorative poses, as well as some therapeutic preparations and breathwork. The curriculum is my design. My intention if most students are returning, is to build on the knowledge (not the intensity) of poses covered in this second 8 week session. This class will not run again until September.
2. The 8 week Chair Yoga class shares the same time frame - the last session for the spring will be March 5 - April 30. This year I have really added some interesting work with two chairs....This class spends half of its time with improvised seated poses and the other half standing, again with improvised poses using the chair. Handouts with exercises from our practice and supplemental handouts are given each time. This very unique class has now been offered for 5 years and is an example of how yoga is growing in this country: using yoga like physical therapy. Please share info about this class with interested friends. It is a great starting place for folks who do not want to get up and down from the floor.
3. Thanks to the 9:45 Thursday class and the 11:00 exercise class for your patience as we host Shepherd's Center at CUMC for 6 weeks. On Thursdays, we are meeting in a beautiful set of rooms: The Disciple Room/Parlor. In the last week of February we will be back in our room 216 but then...on March 5, all three classes will meet in the Disciple Room/Parlor....due to the Kids Konsignment sale. Anyone with small children, please come shop March 6th (9am - 8 pm) and 7th for the half price sale (9 - noon). We have the best children's consignment sale in town:)
4. The Sunday class is full with a waiting list and I am encouraging all students to please let me know when you are not coming to class so I can let some of the interested parties "drop in" to get a taste of our classes and a good practice.
5. In advance, please note that classes will not meet the week of April 12 - 16.
6. With inflation, the cost of Sunrider products is increasing. Those of you who are purchasing "Sunbreeze Oil," the "Fortune Delight" and "NuPlus" supplement drinks, the stevia "SunnyDew" drops,....all of that will increase in price soon - I will put in an order by the end of this month. Please let me know of any orders. I will have some Fortune Delight for us to try again in class this week! Google Sunrider to learn more about their myriad of products, all based on Chinese medicine. I do use alot of their products and I do see a difference in my body!

From "The Daily Om," inspiring word to press you onward in your steps to consistency in your still new, "New Year's resolutions," to remind you of your ability to affect your future with your own positive thinking, and to learn to recognize your own thought patterns that serve as hurdles. Now you can understand how to leap over them!! |
February 5, 2009 As Blessed As You Want to Be The Power Of Staying Positive
Our thoughts are not simply ethereal pieces of information that enter our minds and then disappear. The words and ideas that we think can shape our lives and drive us toward success and happiness or failure and distress. How you think and feel can have a profound effect on your ability to recognize opportunity, how well you perform, and the outcome of the goals that you've set for yourself. When you maintain an optimistic outlook and make an effort to harbor only positive thoughts, you begin to create the circumstances conducive to you achieving what you desire. You feel in control and few of life's challenges seem truly overwhelming because it is in your nature to expect a positive conclusion. An optimistic mind is also an honest one. Staying positive does not mean that you ignore difficulties or disregard limitations. Instead, it means spending time focusing only on the thoughts that are conducive to your well-being and progress.
Positive thinking dramatically increases your chances of success in any endeavor. When you're sure that you are worthy and that achievement is within your grasp, you start to relax and look for solutions rather than dwelling on problems. You are more likely to imagine positive situations or outcomes and disregard the thoughts related to giving up, failure, or roadblocks. What the mind expects, it finds. If you anticipate joy, good health, happiness, and accomplishment, then you will experience each one. Thinking positively may sound like a simple shift in attention - and it is - but it is a mind-set that must be developed. Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, try immediately replacing it with a constructive or optimistic one. With persistence, you can condition your mind to judge fleeting, self-defeating thoughts as inconsequential and dismiss them.
It is within your power to become as happy, content, or successful as you make up your mind to be. Staying positive may not have an immediate effect on your situation, but it will likely have a profound and instantaneous effect on your mood and the quality of your experiences. In order for positive thinking to change your life, it must become your predominant mind-set. Once you are committed to embracing positive thinking, you'll start believing that everything that you want is within your grasp.
