Greetings LifeFit Yogis and Friends,
Nice to have a yoga practice to resort to when at home for “snow days!” I am really proud to hear from so many of my students that they decided to do some yoga practice! Looks like we will need to keep doing just that for the next short while.
Please remember that for the classes at CUMC, I try to follow the Guilford County school schedule and if in the middle of the day we can try to have a class because the temp is higher and the roads might allow, we will try J Please know that I will try to communicate more things in group classes as I am not getting emails from many of you now nor are my emails reaching everyone on my lists. I will try to see what the root of the problem might be.
As you have probably heard, Yoga Day has been postponed to Feb 6th – I am attaching the flier yet again as there are a few spaces still left. We realize that again we may have icy weather Friday, Feb 5, so we will try to get the word out by email, phone and website, if the event is cancelled. I had written something to read during our last restorative pose for each of our classes for Yoga Day and as my plan was to then put it in the Feb newsletter, here is the piece I wrote (we were all going to have practice tree pose at one point in each of the three very different sequences for the morning):
Like a tree
Each year renewing
There is growth
There is a seasonal pattern of endings and beginnings
In fall we finish tasks with bursts of energy
In winter we hibernate until the warmth returns
We turn our attention inward and reflect
It is a natural rhythm
All living creatures on earth participate
Now that we acknowledge it,
We must consciously and skillfully
Invite the
New
To emerge
Like a tree
We root in order to reach upward
Our roots are our foundation
They provide strength to what supports our beginnings
They provide comfort in what is familiar
From our very beginnings, we get to reach upward
But to continue to reach upward,
To reach toward God
To grow to our potential
Like a tree
We must grow from our trunk
Our trunk is who we are
Our being
Our soul
The rings of age show
How much we allow ourselves to take in
How much we suffer
The patterns of our growth
Our vulnerability and our readiness
To take on life
To take on change
To stay grounded so that we can continue to reach up
To continue with readiness, each year to grow.
Like a tree
Our limbs extend
They bend and adjust so the foundation remains unshaken,
As they perform,
They hold our energy and quietly carry on great work
They offer support and recruit nourishment
They lead us upward, and forward,
They radiate our being
And remind us
To embrace change
To trust God unconditionally
And to find a new beginning in each season’s ending.
Lastly, please know that soon at the church we will be without our classroom to practice for the rest of the Spring. Please be patient as we have many hurdles ahead in order to maintain as much of our classes as possible while we are undergoing construction. Our new space will be so great and we will be able to do so much more. I will be able to offer more to our LifeFit students – we will have new ways to grow together – getting over these hurdles will be one of them. Thank you all in advance for your patience and your helpful suggestions. Everyone, keep up your practice – heat-building poses come from all that fall in the back bending category! There are so many and as the spine is meant to do some of that, some back bending poses are very light and gentle. I will be reminding us all in group classes.
Namaste,
Mona Flynn
